The Library in a Nutshell:

  • The library serves both adults and children.
  • The users are served in a lending room, a reading room and a little toyroom.
  • Collection Size - 17,700; subscribes to 13 titles of periodicals.
  • The books are lent out under an automatic loan system.
  • Annually: visitors - 18,100, borrowers - 18,800.
  • Public internet centre with 4 workstations has been launched into operation: 3- for schoolchildren, 1- for adults. Access to internet and databases is available. Over 6,500 visitors use internet annually. Instructions how to use internet and play computer games.(In Lithuanian only).
  • The library staff run Spindulelis (A little sunbeam). This is a group of Little Valancius' Followers that was inspired by Bishop M.Valancius Abstinent Movement seeking to prevent alcohol and drugs.
  • Traditional library events: international children’s book day, national library week, Northern countries’ library week, meetings with interesting people of Siauliai, competitions, quizzes.
  • Exhibitions: to commemorate jubilees of famous writers and painters, calendar feasts, to display children’s drawings and craft.
  • The library cooperates with kindergartens, children’s day nursery homes and other educational institutions.
